Your call. Three ways to bid this are defensible and one is right, and which one it is has nothing to do with whether the contract would have made.

THE PROBLEM

Ten thousand hands online, but going nowhere.

There is a reason, and it isn't effort. Results are the worst teacher in bridge, full stop. A sound bid that goes two down looks exactly like a reckless one. A wild punt that happens to land looks like pure genius. The cards decided the result; your judgment only decided the call, and nothing at the table separates the two for you.

So you collect outcomes and call it experience. Ten thousand of them, and they taught you very little about which of your calls were actually sound. Meanwhile the player across the room who learned in a good partnership got something you didn't: somebody who could look at the call and say that was wrong, and here is why, on the hands that made and the hands that didn't.

THE ANSWER

You bid. We tell you if it was right, and why.

Every hand stops at the one call that decides it. You make that call, and Bridge Sense tells you on the spot whether it was right, judged by the rules of the system you play, not by how the cards happened to lie. A good bid stays a good bid whether or not it would have made.

Then it tells you why: what partner had already promised, what the other reasonable calls would have said, and how your hand fits. The feedback a strong partner gives you at the table, on every single hand.

HOW IT WORKS

Skip the calls you'd never have missed.

1

You arrive at the decision

The auction is bid for you up to the one call the hand turns on. Nobody needs help opening 1♠ with fourteen points, so you are not asked. You are asked the question the hand was chosen for.

2

You commit

A real bidding box showing only what is legal from where the auction stands. No multiple choice, no hint about which answer is the interesting one. You have to actually decide.

3

You find out why

Not whether it worked but whether it was right. What partner promised, what each defensible alternative would have shown, and where your hand fell short of it. Then the next one.

THE OTHER MODE

Want the full auction?

Practice gives you every turn, from your first call to the last, with the same explanation after each one. Useful once you know which decisions you want to drill.

QUESTIONS

Good to know.

What is Bridge Sense?
Your personal bidding coach, played like a game. In Play, the auction is bid for you up to the one call that decides the hand: you make it, and you find out why it was right or wrong. In Practice, you bid a full auction from your first turn to the last.
I already play on BBO. What does this add?
Playing tells you what happened, and BBO's robots will tell you what a bid means. Neither tells you whether your call was right, because the cards decide the result and your judgment only decided the call. Here the answer is settled before any cards are played, so a good bid stays a good bid whether or not it would have made. We do not run tables: play there, learn here.
Is Bridge Sense part of Bridge Base Online?
No. Bridge Sense is an independent product of Realitics Inc. with no connection to Bridge Base Online. We name BBO because that is where most of our players play, and because a bidding coach only makes sense when there is somewhere to use what you learn.
Which systems do you support?
Standard American (the default, with 2/1 Game Force built in) and Precision. You pick one and every hand is graded against it, including the competitive auctions, where the opponents have opened or intervened. Much of competitive bidding is common ground, but not all of it: what a jump raise means, and how strong a hand has to be to invite, depend on the system you have chosen, and you are graded on yours.
How do you know my call was wrong?
A deterministic engine of explicit bidding rules decides it: the same hand and auction always produce the same answer, and that answer traces to the specific rule behind it. Every rule states what the call shows, which is checked against the hand that made it, and you can read the working in the Technical Notes on any hand. The rules themselves are reviewed against real deals by a bridge expert and corrected when they are wrong. Claude writes the explanation once the right call is already settled; it has no vote in deciding it.
Is this bidding only, or card play too?
Bidding only for now. Declarer play and defence are planned; Bridge Sense is being built to cover the whole game, not a single drill.
Do I need to sign in?
Not to try it: your first five hands need no account at all. After that, a free account (Google or an email link, no card) gets you 10 hands a day, consistent across devices, with a record of which decisions you keep getting wrong. A paid plan removes the daily limit.
What do the plans cost, and can I cancel?
The Monthly plan is $14 a month; the Annual plan is $120 a year, which works out at $10 a month. Both renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel a plan at any time without contacting us; you keep access to the end of the period you have paid for, and your free account stays either way. We refund any payment in full within 14 days, no questions asked. Payments are handled by Paddle, our authorised reseller.
